International conference welcomes experts in innovative chemistry and chemical biology

The first Conference on Innovative Chemistry and Chemical Biology, organized by CATRIN, Palacký University Olomouc, opened today in the Chapel of Corpus Christi in Olomouc. The event has brought together around 50 leading researchers working at the intersection of modern synthetic chemistry, chemical biology, and cutting-edge analytical technologies.

“The aim of the conference is to foster interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge and to present the latest advances in innovative multicomponent reactions, automation and miniaturization in synthetic chemistry, in chemical biology, and in next-generation proteomics platforms with a focus on covalent probes. We will also highlight bioorthogonal chemistry and molecular tools for understanding disease biology, which enable large-scale biological screening and the elucidation of mechanisms of action,” said the conference’s main organizer, Alexander Dömling, the ERA Chair holder at CATRIN. The renowned chemist Alexander Dömling is also the principal investigator of the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) grant entitled “Automated, Miniaturized and Accelerated Drug Discovery” (AMADEUS). The project aims to accelerate the development of new compounds, reduce financial costs and environmental burden, and enhance the safety of the process, with miniaturization and automation proving to be particularly promising approaches.

The conference features a strong international line-up of speakers from the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Poland, Greece, and Italy, all recognized for their contributions to multicomponent reactions and their application in drug discovery and molecular innovation. The two-day programme is divided into seven thematic sections.

“Thanks to the ERA Chair Accelerator project and the work of Professor Alexander Dömling, Palacký University and its institute CATRIN have become a respected international centre for research in multicomponent reactions. We are proud that Olomouc has thus naturally become the venue for the first edition of this international conference, which brings together leading experts from around the world in the fields of multicomponent reaction chemistry and chemical biology,” said Pavel Banáš, Director of CATRIN.
