Appreciation of the “space” project

The Rector of Palacký University Michael Kohajda, together with Vice-Rector for Science, Creative Activity, and Knowledge Transfer Jiří Drábek, expressed their appreciation to the project’s principal investigator, Véronique Bergougnoux from CATRIN, for her exemplary presentation of the University and for receiving the prestigious “space” project.

“It was a very pleasant surprise and a nice meeting for me. I am glad that I was able to present the project to the Rector and Vice-rector and introduce to them the individual stages of the research. We had a very interesting discussion, for which I am very grateful,” said the principal investigator of the project.

Among the 13 experiments that will be part of Czech astronaut Aleš Svoboda’s upcoming mission to the International Space Station (ISS) is research prepared by scientists from CATRIN and the Brno-based company S.A.B. Aerospace. The bioreactor they have developed will monitor the effect of the space environment on the growth and development of plants, in this case barley. The experts want to use the findings not only in long-term space missions, but also for the development of new varieties with higher resistance to extreme conditions. We have provided more information about the project here.
