CATRIN website gets a modern makeover to reflect the institute’s evolution

After approximately five years, the CATRIN website has undergone a redesign. The aim was to give it a more modern, dynamic and user-friendly look, bring together the different web environments of the institute’s constituent divisions and reflect the changes and developments within CATRIN.

“The changes also reflect CATRIN’s decision to update the names used in external communications for two of its three divisions to better represent their current scientific profiles and the breadth of their research activities. The former CATRIN-CRH designation has been replaced by CATRIN-BIO, which more accurately reflects the focus of the bioscience division. Alongside plant and agricultural research, its activities encompass a broader range of biological sciences, biodiversity, entomology and innovative chemistry. Similarly, CATRIN-RCPTM has been renamed CATRIN-MAT, reflecting the division’s primary focus on materials research, nanotechnology and related advanced technologies. The designation CATRIN-IMTM remains unchanged,” explained CATRIN Director Pavel Banáš.

The launch of the new website also brings changes to the names of several research groups to better reflect their scientific focus. The Carbon Nanostructures, Biomolecules and Simulations group, led by Michal Otyepka, has been renamed Atomic Precision Materials, while the Photoelectrochemistry group, led by Štěpán Kment, is now known as Light-Driven Technologies.

“The redesigned CATRIN website builds on its previous version, incorporating insights gained from user experience to offer more intuitive navigation and better-connected content. We have also managed to improve loading speeds while maintaining the website’s visual appeal. Looking ahead, support for WebMCP technology opens up new opportunities for interaction with AI assistants,” explained web developer Ondřej Růžička.

The website showcases the research activities of all three CATRIN divisions, introducing individual research groups, their areas of expertise and their most significant scientific achievements. Visitors can also explore information about ongoing projects, research infrastructure, collaboration opportunities and the latest developments at the institute. Particular emphasis has been placed on presenting how research results are translated into practical applications, with significantly expanded information on research valorisation and opportunities for collaboration with industry.
