Jeff Cole, a collaborator and a member of the CATRIN Scientific Council, has passed away
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Jeff Cole, the former president and vice president of the European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB). A long-time supporter of the European biotechnology community, he was a collaborator of CATRIN and an important member of its Scientific Council.
Jeff Cole strongly supported the development of biotechnology in Olomouc and initiated the establishment of the local EFB Regional Branch Office, which operates at CATRIN. He contributed significantly to the organization of the Green for Good series of conferences, the latest year of which took place at Palacký University last year. Thanks to his openness, friendliness, and many years of experience, new partnerships and opportunities for international cooperation were created. Not only biotechnology experts, but also representatives of the general public had the opportunity to meet the former president and vice president of the EFB, for example at the Academia Film Olomouc festival, of which he was a guest.
Jeff Cole was respected not only for his professional expertise, but also for his human approach, his ability to inspire colleagues, and his willingness to support young scientists. Like few others, he was a symbol of generosity and willingness to work for the scientific community, always with tireless commitment, enthusiasm, energy, and dedication.
His work left a significant mark on the field of biotechnology and on the community of people who develop science with an emphasis on collaboration and knowledge sharing.
We express our sincere condolences to his family and friends.
