A Group Leader Position Of The Innovative Chemistry Group
The successful candidate will receive a five-year contract at Palacký University Olomouc, the Czech Republic. This position is open immediately for the selected candidate.
About the research group:
The Innovative Chemistry group is part of the Czech Advanced Technology and Research Institute at Palacký University Olomouc. This research group is being established under the ERA Chair project ACCELERATOR and is closely following the mantra ‘AUTOMATION + MINIATURIZATION = ACCELERATION’. In collaboration with other CATRIN groups in materials science (RCPTM), drug discovery and development (IMTM), and plant science (CRH), researchers are developing solutions to pressing societal issues, e.g., sustainable materials, drugs for unmet medical needs, and food security. The group heavily focuses on sustainable multicomponent reaction (CR) chemistry. Graphene surface modification methods are developed in view of globally exhausting data memory and catalysis. Sustainable chemistry is developed for the design of novel biostimulants to help to ‘feed future society’. In the field of drug discovery and development, active research areas include novel targeted antibiotics, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer drugs. To accomplish novel discoveries, the group develops forefront synthesis and structure-based methods, as well as artificial intelligence-enabled generative nanosynthesis machines.
The content of the job:
The successful candidates will lead the Innovative Chemistry group according to the ACCELERATOR ERA Chair project objectives. The candidate will coordinate the research group activities towards the automated miniaturized chemistry platform to support materials science, medicinal chemistry and plant science projects. Wide diversity of projects will be pursued, including method and technology developments, around miniaturized automated chemistry, multicomponent reaction chemistries and its applications to materials, plant science and drug discovery. The candidate will receive a five-year contract at Palacký University Olomouc, the Czech Republic.
Qualification requirements:
- very strong background in synthetic multicomponent reaction chemistry (MCR) with at least 10 years of experience in academia and/or industry after PhD;
- knowledge in preclinical drug discovery and development;
- strong interest in neighbouring disciplines, plant, medicine or material science;
- very good publication record in synthetic chemistry and MCR chemistry;
- excellent command of the English language;
- proven leadership qualities;
- strong record in obtaining major research grant funding;
- strong experience with technology transfer with tangible results;
- entrepreneurial spirit.
Benefits:
We offer a stimulating environment, internationally competitive salary, and a unique opportunity to lead a research group in a well-known research institute in order to conduct forefront research. Beyond this, there is an opportunity to translate inventions into innovations.
Required documents:
Candidates should submit their application alongside an extended curriculum vitae, including a list of publications, patents and other achievements to: pavel.banas@upol.cz; monika.klimparova@upol.cz by 16 October, 2023.
Screening of applicants will resume immediately and results will be announced by 16 November 2023. Selected applicants will be invited for an interview.
