Durairaj Arulappan, Ph.D.

Postdoktorand MSCA-CZ

Durairaj Arulappan is an MSCA-CZ postdoctoral research fellow at CATRIN. He develops advanced nanomaterials for photocatalytic ammonia synthesis, focusing on the sustainable conversion of nitrate into ammonia for nitrogen recovery and environmental applications.

Dr. Arulappan Durairaj earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, Tamil Nadu, India, in 2019. His research focuses on the design, synthesis, and advanced characterization of functional nanomaterials for energy and environmental applications. His research experience spans India, China, and Israel, encompassing multidisciplinary projects supported by the DST–India Waste-to-Wealth Programme and the Jiangsu Province Fund, as well as European collaborative projects such as SYMSITES and BIOMAT. He has authored 50 peer-reviewed publications and holds one patent, with his research published in journals including Carbon, ACS Applied Energy Materials, ACS Applied Bio Materials, Applied Surface Science, Journal of Energy Storage, and Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, among others.

Currently, Dr. Durairaj is an MSCA-CZ Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Czech Advanced Technology and Research Institute (CATRIN), Palacký University Olomouc, Czech Republic. His current research focuses on Advanced nanomaterials for Photocatalytic Ammonia Synthesis, with a particular focus on the sustainable conversion of nitrate into ammonia for nitrogen recovery and environmental applications.
